A LANTERN MADE UTILIZING FINE JEWELRY TECHNIQUES
INSPIRATION
Inspired by fungi and natural forms. I began thinking about light, shape, and texture
SKETCHES
The evolution from a tabletop object using stone setting and metal forming techniques to a hanging lantern, focused on light projection through glass beads.
PROCESS
From initial explorations with glass beads and basket settings to paper and foam prototypes. Continuing to make ninety basket settings, finally gluing them to the final paper model, using plaster to pull them off and solder the undersides. Later, patterning out tab systems to hold the basket settings, as well as cutting out, scoring, forming, and soldering the metal lantern.
